I love live theater and am fortunate to live in the suburbs of Philly where I can walk or drive to many close venues. Every few weeks, a close friend and I get a real hankering to see a show. Being the frugal folks that we are, we look for any deal we can spot.
To start off, we browsed 5 theater website we often go to. We searched the show calendars and came upon a Pay What You Can night at Arden Theater. Since we would be in Old City neighborhood for the play, we looked in the area for a place to grab a drink and a snack beforehand. Once again, we referenced the websites of the closest bars that came up on Google Maps and found a wonderful place with $3 microbrews (Irish Pol) and a place close by with cheap burgers and fries (National Mechanics), both during happy hour.
Our evening was relaxing because we knew where we wanted to go and the times for everything. We did our research and spent a total of $15 for a night of theater, food, drinks and fun!
Quick tip: Do some easy frugal research by browsing websites of places you plan to go.
